Two powerful earthquakes have hit the central of Italy causing several damages but no life was lost. Meteorologist stated that the first quake which has the magnitude of 5.5 was lesser more devastating than the later which has the magnitude of 6.1.

The two quakes almost occurred the same time, the first occurred around 17:10 local time while the second took place at 19:10 precisely.

Authorities have reported that no life was lost in the quake but property, houses, power lines, motorways etc were either destroyed or cut off.

The CNN reported that the second quake -- with a magnitude of 6.1 -- was 3.2 kilometers (2 miles) north of Visso and 58 km (36 miles) from Perugia, the USGS reported.

Just a few hours earlier, a magnitude-5.5 quake struck the same region. The epicenter was about 9 kilometers away, south-southwest of Visso. The first quake hit at 7 p.m. (1 p.m. ET) between Perugia and Macerata, according to ANSA.

When the mayor of the town Mauro Falcucci was contacted the stated thus "we don't have any reported victims, but we're in the dark and under a downpour, we're waiting for the Civil Protection Department to bring us lighting towers."

However, the good news is that the destructive effects of the quakes were not massive. They were described as shallow quakes, no life or injuries have been recorded so far.

Government authorities including the fire brigades, medical personnel, evacuation and emergency teams, police and military will be on the ground within a short while to assist those affected directly or indirectly by the quakes.
