Most job seekers fail not because there are incompetent or lack the proper qualification(s), they actually fail because they insert some irrelevant documents, outdated fonts and buzzwords. However Job Seekers are not properly sensitized on this issue and this result in them making the same mistakes repeatedly.
It is for this sole reason that we went on a fact finding mission to identify the reason(s) why most job seekers fail in their bid to secure employment in their desired place of work. Consequently we met a career expert who offered up the most common mistakes that can cost you a job.
To enhance your chances of securing a job or an employment in any venture you really need to have a sound qualification and a corresponding CV to highlight them.
HERE ARE 10 THINGS YOU SHOULD NEVER INCLUDE IN YOUR CV.
PERSONAL STUFF: Inserting your personal stuff such as marital status, religion, preference and social security number was the standard in the past but recently it has become obsolete and no longer relevant if you are applying for a job in America and some other developed countries. It has become illegal and highly discouraged for your employer to ask you for such requirements.
NOTE: This section is only applicable to countries that have banned employers from asking of such qualification, so if you are applying for a job in a country that haven't declared such illegal then you may be required to provide such info.
INSERTING YOUR FORMAL BOSS NAME AND YOUR HOBBIES: It is highly forbidden to include your present or formal boss name in your CV unless you are OK with your potential employers contacting him or her. Career Expert Alyssa Gelbard said that the only reason your boss' name should be on your CV is if he is someone noteworthy, and if it will be really impressive to insert such.
On the other hand, if your hobby(s) is not needed in the job you are seeking, then it will be an exercise in futility to include such as it might even work against you getting the job.
LIES: Due to the fact that most job seekers want to be 100% qualified and fit to get a job, most of them result to telling blatant lies and inserting such in their CV. Rosemary Haefner who is the Chief Resource Person CareerBuilder said that these lies maybe misguided attempt to compensate for lacking 100% of the qualification specified in the job posting.
She further advised that job seekers should concentrate on the skills they can offer rather than those they can't offer.
USING OF INCONSISTENT FORMATTING: The format of your CV is as important as the content, says Amanda Augustine a Career Expert. She was of the view that the best format is one which will make it more easier for the hiring manager to scan your CV and still be able to pick out your key qualification and career goals.
It is better advised not to be jumping from one format to another, stick to the first you picked. For example when your format flows from Year, Month, Day, make sure it goes that way without changing because it makes your CV easy to read and also ensures clarity.
PERSONAL PRONOUN: Personal pronouns like ''me'', ''I'', ''he'',''she'',''my'' is highly forbidden. Career Coach advised that your CV shouldn't contain the first or third person pronoun as everything therein in your CV is all about you and your experience.
